Jo’burg, Apartheid Museum and Soweto Tour

(The Concrete Jungle of South Africa)

Early morning departure from your place of stay, we set foot into the concrete jungle of South Africa. This is a perfect tour that will give the visitor an introduction and insides into the life of South Africa, from exploring the history of the city, to reliving the dark ages the country experienced through the years of Apartheid by visiting the museum. After the Apartheid Museum visit, we then spend the rest of the afternoon inside the townships of Soweto. These Southwestern Townships of the city of Johannesburg are situated just a stone throw away from the city itself. We enter the biggest township in the country with an inhabitant of almost 5 million population. We explore the township as we experience the different social standards of the townships from the rich of Diepkloof Township to the very poor of informal settlements of Nomzamo. At the informal settlements one will be afforded the opportunity of exploring the area with a local guy that would take you around the informal settlements whilst explaining to you their ways of living, survival, education and employment. Once we are done, we then proceed to relieve the history that made Soweto what it is. The events of 1976 Students Uprising, the period where students were shot and killed by police for protesting the use of Afrikaans language as medium of instructions in schools. The guns did not have a specific target that time as the youngest child to have been killed was just thirteen years of age. We take a walk down the historic street of Vilakazi Street. Over there we come across the famous 8115 residence of Pres. Nelson Mandela where he lived with his family before being sent to jail in 1962.
